Events of 2005

This year the Finnish was the first translator’s workshop of the year. From the 2nd of April Eeva Haverinen, Tapani Hynynen, Tuomas Laine-Frigren, Salla Mikkola, Heli Mäkeläinen, Heini-Leena Rutanen, Johanna Halme, Hannu Kaiponen and Kasperi Hasala translated the works of Miklós Mészöly, under the supervision of professor Tuomo Lahdelma from Jyväskylä and Ágnes Pasztercsák. Jolán Mann, Beáta Thomka and Outi Hassi were invited to give talks. – On the 4th of June, as an event of the Balatonfüred Book Week the AB-ART Publishers from Bratislava were introduced to the public. -  The winner of the translation competition hosted by the Balassi Bálint Institute, Ville Jakelaa from Finland, was awarded a week’s stay in the house. – On the 11th of June we had our popular garden party (sponsored once again by the Infokom Kft), among our guests were once again many writers, translators and artists. Pál Kiszely deputy-major of Baltonfüred gave the opening speech. The house hosted Péter Újházi’s exhibition Ügyiratgrafikák (Documentprints) opened by the art-historian György Várkonyi. The Lipták képtár is our standing exhibition consisting of works on loan by: Ferenc Banga, Imre Bak, Márton Barabás, John Bátki, András Böröcz, Imre Bukta, Mária Chilf, József Darázs, Pál Deim, El Kazovszkij, Miklós Erdély, László Fehér, László Felugossy, Áron Gábor, Bálint Havas, László Hegedűs2, Katalin Káldi, Károly Kelemen, György Kemény, Ilona Keserü, Károly Klimó, András Koncz, Antal Lakner, Viktor Lois, Rezső Móder, István Nádler, Réka Nemere, István Orosz, Sándor Pinczehelyi, Sándor Rácmolnár, Gábor Roskó, Kata Szalai, Zsuzsa Szenes, Ágnes Szépfalvi, Tamás Szikora, Klára Szilárd, Margit Szilvitzky, János Szirtes, Zoltán Szlabey, László Szotyory, Gábor Szörtsey, József Szurcsik, Villő Turcsány, Mamikon Yengibarian. The art historian Márta Kovalovszky organized the exhibition.  The Győri-Madaras duo (Noémi Győri and Gergely Madaras) gave a beautiful flute concert. On the same occasion we launched the fourth issue of the Füredi Fordítói Füzetek, containing the short story Főúr, füzetek! (excerpt) by András Jeles in twenty languages, the author and some of the translators read the story. In the evening the musician David Yengibarian entertained us. From the 27th of June to the 1st of July Ádám Kovacsics led once again the Spanish translator’s workshop (we were happy to see the large number of participants: José Miguel González Trevejo, Mária Szijj, Veronika Major, Judit Krasznai, Eija Horváth, Rita Juhász, Éva Cserháti, Márta Pávai Patak and the critic Mercedes Monmany as a speaker. The participants translated works by Attila Bartis and Ernő Szép. – Between the 2nd and the 4th of July we organized a Catalan-Hungarian workshop led by Aloi Castelló with the participation of Dóra Bakucz, Jordi Giné de Lasa, Krisztina Nemes, Katalin Pálvölgyi and Imola Szabó, translating works by Imre Oravecz and Péter Esterházy.  Kálmán Faluba and Balázs Déry were invited as speakers. – Between the 11th and the 16th of July, we organized a workshop for French translators, led by the translator Ágnes Járfás. The participants: Sophie Aude, Olivier Bickart, Véronique Visy, Irisz Stollsteiner-Maróczi; they translated works by István Örkény and talked with Péter Esterházy. – In early September the Russian translators of Attila József arrived (Marina Borogyickaja, Natalija Vanhanen, Jurij Guszev, Konsztantyin Szitnyikov and Pavel Csuprov). The work was led by Vjacseszlav Szereda, the translators listened to talks by

professors András Veress, György Szőke and György Tverdota. They presented their work in the library of the town as an event of the Lipták Szalon. (The NKÖM Nemzeti Évfordulók Titkársága sponsored the event.)

On the 11th of September the rain forced us to move the programme of the S. Quasimodo poetry competition indoors, originally planned in the garden. – On the 9th of October the open-doors day of the House was organized, where the citizens of Balatonfüred were acquainted with our work. – Form the 9th till the 15th of October the workshop led by Franciska Ćurković-Major, István Ladányi and Jolán Mann helped students begin their careers as translators. István Vörös and László Garaczi were the writers invited for the event. The participants: Jelena Knežević, Tatjana Vukadinović, Ana Labar, Valentina Kalčićek, Antonia Bedeniković, Zrinka Cvitanović, Lea Kovács, Ivana Mlinarić, Ivana Sabljak, Asja Korbar. – Our foundation received Public Benefit status. – We cut down an old plum tree, we planted an apple tree and a cherry tree. The willows are coming along nicely. – Our caretaker Zsuzsa Bocsor Mrs. Szamosfalvi did a splendid job all through the year, the guests were delighted. – In the course of the year the following media reported about the work of the Translators House: Napló (Veszprém), Füred TV, in two half-jour programs the Magyar Televízió (m2) – special thanks to Erika Ferenczy and Tamás Kinyó, Radio Jam, Balatonfüredi Napló, Magyar Rádió, Neuer Pester Lloyd, Litera, Barátság, Élet és Irodalom, Népszabadság, Új Szó (Pozsony). –
